how is odor an issue for you?
I love to do pretty much anything outdoors in all kind of weather. I run, cycle, play rugby, ski, compete in triathlons, hike, camp, etc. This means my clothes get pretty filthy, sweaty and sometimes wet depending on the weather. More often than not, I will toss them in a plastic bag in the back of my car and forget about them for a few days which lets all the funk and grime really set in and fester. I've had to toss out some of my expensive "wicking material" clothes due to baked in odor I can't get out no matter how many times I wash them. That puts a dent in my budget quickly!
do you have any funny odor stories from your past?
I live in a tiny one room apartment with my fiance and dog. Being in such close quarters can be tough, especially when it comes to keeping everything clean. After my most recent adventure race (The Warrior Dash) I spread my clothes around to dry out before I washed them. I got home from work on Monday after the race and the dog's teeth were chattering because every window in the house was open and the fan was on. I asked my fiancee why, since it was freezing outside, and apparently the stink coming from my dirty clothes was so overwhelming he'd rather sit around in his coat in the cold than smell them.
how did you test the shirt?
I wore this shirt at least once a week while training for the San Diego marathon, including during my warm up run the day before the race. I ran a race series of Thursday night races for 5 months in it. I competed in the Warrior Dash in it, and then left it in a plastic bag, covered in sweat and mud and soaking wet, in the back of my car along with my socks, towel and shorts for 2 days before pulling them out to dry.
how did the shirt perform?
I was pleasantly surprised with how well this shirt washed up. I have had to throw out a ton of Under Armor gear because the armpits on the shirt got stained and smelly and even stunk up my other clothes when I put them in the wash. This shirt occasionally got smelly after a long workout (a 3+ hour run in the rain on a hot day, for example) but always washed up smelling fresh again. I also liked that it was lightweight and dried quickly, it never got waterlogged or chafed under my arms, which was a huge issue for me with some of my other performance clothes during marathon training. It also washed up nicely (although stained) after two races that involved crawling through mud pits. I had to toss the socks and sports bras I was wearing on those days because I couldn't get the funky smell out, but the shirt got used again this morning a the gym!
