how is odor an issue for you?
Quite often after a day of group hiking, we will go for a meal at a restaurant and I don?t want to stink up the place and make everyone lose their appetite. Or maybe after a morning of paddling on the other side of the island I have to run a few errands before heading home to my side of the island.
how did you test the shirt?
I live on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. As you probably know, the temperatures are moderate to warm and there is always a lot of humidity. I spend a lot of my time hiking up, down, and around the Koolau mountain range, through rain forests, and even to the desert like conditions on the leeward side of the island. One particular hike I took it on was a 4 mile hike that led up a 1700 foot elevation gain to a breathtaking view at the top of the ridge. Some of the sections were so steep, ropes were needed to ensure we didn't fall. I've also worn it while paddling an outrigger canoe, stand up paddling, and to a few of my gym workouts.
how did the shirt perform?
The shirt didn't smell very bad after the first hike. I wasn't too sure it would make a difference until I continued wearing the shirt on my other adventures. The more I wore it, the more the untreated side began to stink even after it was washed. Sometimes even the best washing machines and detergent can?t get out built up sweat. The treated side still smells fresh! There is no way I would have guessed that it has been through so much. -------------------------------------------------UPDATE June 12 On another beautiful Oahu day, my husband and I decided to claim an island of our own. Just North of where we live is a small island called Mokol'i (AKA Chinaman's Hat) We arrived to the island by kayak and then hiked to the top. It was an extremely hot day and the hike was dry with an open terrain. No place to hide from the sun. However, the views were incredible. After kayak surfing back to shore still, no stink! now, on to the next adventure. --------------------------------------------------UPDATE June 21 After hiking down an old abandoned highway, under a current highway, through a patch of towering banyon trees. We came to another old road, some dirt steps, a few rope assisted areas that led us to some steep switchbacks. Than through a grove of avacodo trees, wild ginger did I mention this was all with the humidity of the rainforrest we were hiking above and through. But, all was well with the reward of a beautiful waterfall, Likeke falls. As we stopped to snack and enjoy the view, there was something we didn't enjoy. The smell of some of the members of our group. Good news, it wasn't me! ------------------------------------------------UPDATE June 25 Spent another morning with the Pearl Harbour Outrigger club, this time I wore my shirt. I worked up a sweat, an appetite and some good times, but, no stink! test
What other products would you like to see Agion Active in?
I would like to see odor control in products like hiking/running shoes or insoles for shoes. Socks and hats. ------------------------------------------------------- August 16 UPDATE On Monday August 16th I hiked up 1044 stairs to the top of Koko Head Crater. It's just like being on a giant stairmaster with different size steps, only in a gym you have protection from the sun. On these stairs there is not one tree to shade you from the bottom to the top. The hike is on a bunch of old railroad tracks going up the side of the mountain. There is a bridge in the middle, where the tracks are probably at least a good 10 -15 feet from the ground. After that, the hike becomes super steep. Bad news it's not any easier coming down, balance is a must, there is nothing to hold on to, just you and your legs! Needless to say, my friends were happy I was wearing this shirt. No stink!!

-------------------------------------------------------- October 8th -11th UPDATE With a group of friends we spent three days and two nights hiking across Haleakala Crater on the island of Maui in Hawaii. We started at 9,470ft above sea level and hiked into the crater, across, down and back up the other side, with a total of 25.7 miles through some very tough terrain the shirt made it through with very little smell. The trail was dusty with steep descents, then up and down over lava rock, through the clouds and into a rainforest as well as around ancient cinder cones. The hardest part was on day three, we ascended up the crater wall through numerous switchbacks. The views were incredible, the temperature changes kept us guessing and signs warning us to walk slow due to elevation were a good reminder. All in all, the shirt kept me dry and smelling almost fresh (on one side) as for my friends on the trip, they weren't so lucky, or maybe that was me that wasn't so lucky to be in the car ride back to the airport. This hike definetly tested the shirt in all types of conditions. It was a once in a lifetime adventure.
