how is odor an issue for you?

For years I wore long-sleeved cotton shirts for hiking, kayaking, biking and other activities like gardening, because I have skin cancer issues. Friend and outdoor buddy Colleen bought me a poly long-sleeved shirt to replace my stinky cotton ones. Hugging was not even thinkable. Although it wicked sweat away, the stink remained. After wearing the agion Active shirt for biking, hiking, working out at my local community college, and digging foundations for four hours at Habitat for Humanity, Colleen was able to approach at least one side of me without trepidation--as long as the other "pit" was downwind. I call that a successful trial.

do you have any funny odor stories from your past?

I showed my test shirt to my daughter (who does mini-triathlons), and she remarked, "Oh, a wicking t-shirt. Too bad they all end up smelling bad." That was before I explained the purpose of the shirt. She also liked the Try everything... motto.

how did you test the shirt?

I wore the shirt on a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, followed by a bike ride home. The next day I wore it to a workout at the local community college gym (30 min. on the elliptical, 30 min. on various weight machines, and a warm-up/cool-down that included 105 various sit-ups), 5 hours of volunteer work with digging bars, picks and shovels at a Habitat for Humanity worksite in Thousand Oaks, and after a much-needed laundering, a couple hours of volunteering in a class of 24 first-graders at Haycox School in Oxnard. Oh, yes, and a happy hour on Friday at the Ventura Pier which was the only time all week I didn't sweat.

how did the shirt perform?

During the most sweat- and odor-intensive activities (notably the gym workouts and working at Habitat with a sweatshirt over it in the cooler mornings), the untreated side was very noticeably more "fragrant" (or flagrant). So far I have worn the shirt for three weeks in all exercise situations (noted above). Even after washing, there is a rsidual odor on the untreated side.
